The mushroom cost $6,000 to make and will be fully lit and visible for miles around. Kennett Square Mayor, Matthew W. Fetick reported, "“Thanks to the wonders of today’s digital press, this has expanded much beyond what we thought. It was picked by the Associated Press and was even on Good Morning America. We have a lot of signals that there will be a lot of people at the mushroom drop. It has exceeded the event that was approved by council.” Click Here to watch the Good Morning America Segment.
The 700 pound mushroom will begin its slow decent from approximately 100 feet in the air from Bob's Crane Service's crane just minutes before midnight.
